Description: Join Parent Ambassadors Ana Atach & Bari Jacobson for a fun, interactive after school program. We will read a book and make an easy and fun edible creation that goes along with our theme ( Tu B’Shevat, Purim, Passover, & Shabbat).

This month, we will be learning how to braid challah! You will need premade challah dough or another type of dough. We want to give you a variety of options to get/make dough prior to our program.

  1. Make your own dough BEFORE our program: Here is a Challah Recipe.
  2. Pre-purchase dough options:
    • Cramer’s Bakery in Yardley: Call Cramer’s Bakery at (215) 493-2760. They sell dough in small balls. They recommended ordering 4 balls for 1 regular sized challah. The cost per ball is .75 cents. Please give the bakery 1-2 days advance notice.
    • FREE dough pick up in Center City (for first 10 children that contact Ana Atach- aatach@jewishlearningventure.org)
  3. Other dough purchasing options:
    • Refrigerated French bread dough or similar dough
    • Frozen pizza dough (please have the dough thawed prior to class)
  4. Non edible option: playdough

Additional ingredients/ things that you will need:

  • Extra flour in case the dough is sticky
  • 1 egg (for the egg wash that goes over the dough)
  • 1 tsp of vanilla (optional- it gives the dough a sweeter taste and would be mixed with the egg)
  • 1 brush to put the egg was on or another utensil that could be used to put on the egg wash
  • Small bowl
  • 1 lined baking sheet ( I either use a silicone baking mat or parchment paper)
  • PJ Library Apron (optional)
