Brandi and Andrew Lener and their children, Ethan, 4 and Chloe, 8 months, enjoy the variety of programs offered from jkidphilly and appreciate it as a way to connect with Jewish community outside of their synagogue. “The jkid staff is also amazingly welcoming and a great resource for Jewish Philadelphia (especially for families with young kids),” says Brandi. She also shares that when Ethan was a few months old and she began attending jkid events she met a great group of moms who have become some of her closest friends…so close that their husbands also bowl together weekly!
We asked Brandi and Andrew about their Jewish life at home and in the community.
What kind of Jewish activities do you enjoy at home?
We enjoy reading PJ books, listening to jewish music (it is almost always playing in our car), and we love celebrating all of the holidays. We attend minyan weekly & have taught our son Ethan about the importance of going to shul & participating in minyan.
What are your favorite PJ Library books?
Bim Sings the Baby, Apples & Honey, Dayenu (we read it daily for about 3mo straight!), A Kiss on the Keppie, & an all around favorite – Nosh, Schlep, Schluff
Are you part of any other organized Jewish communities?
We are members of Tiferet Bet Israel in Blue Bell and send our son to pre-school there.
What do you think other parents should know about jkidphilly?
It offers a great way to bring Judaism into your home in a way that works for you and a way to connect Jewishly, for families whose children are not yet attending Hebrew School or who are not members of a synagogue.
