Dear jkidphilly Families,

My family and I love to build the Sukkah together. We usually need help from our neighbors. In the Torah (Leviticus 23), building temporary outdoor huts called Sukkot connects us back to the desert journey of our ancestors, who lived in fragile shelters after escaping enslavement in Egypt.

Even if you don’t have the space or the time to build a Sukkah, you can bring this ancient story to life at home with a fun, hands-on family project!

Try building your own mini-sukkah together using cushions, cardboard boxes, or blankets.

As you build and play inside your cozy creation, you can ask your little ones: What do you think it felt like to live in a temporary hut out in the desert? How can we make our home shelter feel cozy and welcoming, just like our ancestors did? It is a beautiful way to create lasting holiday memories together!

Chag Sukkot Sameach!

Have a Happy Sukkot!

Erin
