Elisa and Avi Mindlin with Morgan, 4.5 and Mikayla, 7.5

We asked Elisa and Avi Mindlin about their favorite Jewish activities, their connection to Jewish community, and the ways jkidphilly has impacted their family.

What do you enjoy about jkidphilly?

We love jkidphilly because it gives us a chance to meet other Jewish families throughout the area and participate in fantastic events.

What kind of Jewish activities do you enjoy at home?

We love reading PJ Library books. They reinforce the Jewish values that we are already teaching our children in our home. We love getting ready for Shabbat and singing songs with our children as we sit down to start our Shabbat meal each week.

What are your favorite PJ Library books?

Mikayla’s favorite PJ Library book is Noah’s Swim-a-thon. It teaches our children how to overcome their fears and help others (and it helped Mikayla to find courage to swim long laps at the pool without assistance!). Morgan’s favorite PJ Library book is Bubbe’s Got the Beat. We love singing along with the book as the grandchild helps their Bubbe get ready for Shabbat.

Are you part of any other organized Jewish communities?

We are members of Beth Sholom Congregation in Elkins Park, and Morgan is in Pre-K there. Elisa is also the Congregational Parent Ambassador for Beth Sholom.  Mikayla’s in Second Grade at Perelman Jewish Day School at the Forman Center. In the summers the girls go to Camp Ramah in the Poconos with Elisa where she works in Omanut (arts and crafts).
