Join Us
Become a Next Dor Ambassador with jkidphilly, the heart of Jewish Learning Venture’s family engagement work. As a Next Dor Ambassador you’ll be part of a supportive and enthusiastic team deeply embedded in the community you serve. You’ll engage families, understanding their passions, needs, and opportunities. Through individual engagement opportunities like coffee dates, walks, and monthly programs, you’ll help families connect to Jewish life in ways that are meaningful to them. You’ll identify and engage peer leaders in your neighborhood to broaden the reach and impact of jkidphilly programs.

Due to the overwhelming growth of Jewish families with young children (0-2) living in the South Philadelphia neighborhoods of Point Breeze and Graduate Hospital, our team is excited and committed to supporting the developing needs of this sprouting community through a grant from the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. We are looking for a local leader to help cultivate this growth, for an initiative we are calling “Next Dor (Next Generation).
Next Dor, includes working with two cohorts, over the course of the year, of expecting and postpartum parents to build a local support network in their neighborhood. As the Next Dor Ambassador, you will also be supporting the Director of jkidphilly to launch and coordinate various components of this exciting initiative.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the director of jkidphilly in the launch of the Next Dor initiative for new and expecting parents in South Philadelphia, including cohort recruitment and outreach, in addition to the coordination of gatherings and connections with Next Dor families.
- Establish and identify pathways for meaningful engagement as each family travels along their unique Jewish journey.
- Embody the value of Klal Yisrael (Jewish inclusivity) by celebrating the diverse needs within our wider community, understanding and representing the voices of marginalized and underserved populations.
- Liaise with local institutional Jewish professionals (i.e. clergy, early childhood and family engagement roles, Federation’s local Community Engagement Specialists) to create cohesive and inclusive programs.
- Host and organize small in-person gatherings and special programs related to Jewish holidays, values, and/or culture.
- Deepen connections with families through individualized engagement in a way that meets a family’s communication needs.
- Manage local facebook group and participate in local Jewish WhatsApp groups.
- Participate in orientation sessions followed by monthly Zoom calls with the PA cohort.
- Check in with a supervisor on a weekly basis.
- Attend two in-person meetings at JLV’s Jenkintown offices.
- Communicate with jkidphilly staff, organizational partners, and families in your community in a timely manner
Qualifications:
- A member of the South Philadelphia parent/caregiver community (Point Breeze or Graduate Hospital preferred).
- Has at least one child age 0-2, to best understand and meet the needs of parents in the target demographic.
- Excited to meet and welcome parents/caregivers and get to know them.
- Excellent communicator with strong relationship-building skills.
- Passionate about Jewish life and interested in facilitating and participating in new opportunities for peers to meet each other.
- Self-motivated, curious, and open to new ideas.
- Knowledgeable about local offerings for parents (or willing to learn) both within and outside of the Jewish community.
- Willing to serve as an ambassador for jkidphilly and Jewish Learning Venture.
Compensation and Commitment:
- The Next Dor Ambassador is expected to work approximately 25 hours/month from September through June on a variety of engagements and communications.
- The Next Dor Ambassador will receive a $7,000 stipend in addition to a budget for program materials + supplies.
- The Next Dor Ambassador is eligible for up to $500 annually for childcare reimbursement when additional support is needed during a PA program (either on-site or at home).
