Description: Making the School System Work for Your Child with Disabilities.
This webinar offers families a straightforward introduction to special education and the steps for having a child evaluated. Parents and caregivers will learn about the three phases of the special education process: pre-referral or referral, evaluation, and eligibility, and how each stage works. The session also covers what special education is, how it differs from general education supports such as MTSS, and the difference between accommodations and modifications.
Here are three key things participants will learn:
– how to recognize when a child might need extra support
– how to start the evaluation process
– how to navigate the special education process, including understanding the key differences between types of supports
