Description: Folkshul’s annual Souper Sunday is a fundraiser against hunger and we need YOUR help. While there have been many times in the past when the soup line was the only access individuals and families had to food, we want our community to understand that hunger is not history; as many as 25% of Philadelphians experiences food insecurity, a shocking number to those of us who are lucky enough to have what we need. Souper Sunday is an opportunity to learn, to give, and to do something tangible in the war against food insecurity:
Folkshulers and Friends make the soup at home, help heat it up at Folkshul, take shifts serving soup to the rest of the community, help pack up extra soup, and drive it over to Face to Face. (We also have jobs available for non-soup-makers – sign up quickly if you’d like a “bring bread and butter” slot!)
On Souper Sunday, your donation of $10 per person or $25 per family of three or more gets you unlimited soup, and supports the Jewish Federation’s Mitzvah Food Project. We take any extra soup to Face to Face in Germantown, a dining room and support center for those in need. Then, in March, some of our Folkshul classes will use the money raised on Souper Sunday to purchase groceries and help stock the MFP shelves.
