Why dough?
Dough has many therapeutic benefits for all ages, in early childhood for growing and developing hands and later in life to strengthen and care for older hands.
Playing with dough can strengthen hand muscles, improve dexterity, flexibility and blood circulation to reduce stiffness and swelling.
Dough play can also help young children develop their pre-academic fine motor skills to make learning to write and cutting with scissors even easier to develop.
Dough is also an important sensory support tool to help regulate the body’s nervous system. Squishing, shaping and squeezing dough provides proprioceptive input, a nutritious sensory need for many children who struggle with self-regulation and sensory integration. Having this sensory need met enables children to feel calm, focused and ready to learn.
Why play?
Play is the work of children and Adoughma dough is perfect for playing! Adoughma dough is small-batch, home-made, high-quality, smooth dough for playing. Gluten-free, allergen-sensitive dough available upon request!
People of all ages and abilities love to play and shape dough. Adoughma dough set ups display colorfully vibrant and natural materials to spark creative, open-ended, process-oriented play that hones a child’s sense of discovery, curiosity and creativity. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children spend at least 60 minutes a day in open-ended play.
Dough play contributes to social/emotional learning.
A dough play set up is shared. All materials are communal and passed from person to person. Children practice their communication skills to ask for what they need and practice their patience by waiting for a tool to become available. Cognitive and critical thinking skills are often employed as children labor on their creations by trying different tools and engaging in a creative trial and error process.

“I can’t say enough about Adoughma Dough Play Events. They came to the Katz JCC for a kid-friendly Tu B’shevat experience yesterday. Erin brought everything and was so easy to work with. She engaged the kids and was a true pleasure to work with from start to finish. The kids all had a blast! Some of the adults couldn’t help themselves either and got involved in the dough playing. Highly recommend”
“Adoughma did an amazing event in Shorashim in Temple Israel Center today. It was a multi-generational event with our Pre-K through 6th grade learners and their grandparents and special visitors. The program included age appropriate text study and each learner and their visitor were given time to create something with dough that symbolizes Judaism for them. Followed by that they were each given a place in Israel to learn about, create out of dough and geo-tag to a large map of Israel. Erin at Adoughma was a pleasure to work with. The materials were well organized, beautiful, the lesson was content rich and an amazing time was had by all. This was a program full of a lot of learning, laughter and fun! Most of all, we are an inclusive school and this program was engaging and inclusive of each and every learner in our program. Thank you so much, Adoughma!”
