Avi Slutsky, age 3.5, with his father Michael at a jkidphilly program at the Crayola Experience.
We spoke to Danielle Selber and Michael Slutsky about their favorite Jewish activities, their connection to Jewish community, and the ways jkidphilly has impacted their family.
What do you enjoy about jkidphilly?
We have really enjoyed being part of the Russian jkidphilly group and attending those events with families like ours. We also love PJ Library books and read them almost every night!
What kind of Jewish activities do you enjoy at home?
We do something for Shabbat dinner every week, whether it’s hosting friends, going to my parents or having a quiet dinner at home and Avi is the best at saying the blessings over the wine and challah. Avi also loves to put tzedekah in the box and say where it should go to. We watch a lot of Israeli TV shows on YouTube because Avi and I speak Hebrew to one another.
What are your favorite PJ Library books?
The book called ‘Israel’ with a different page for each city in Israel is Avi’s favorite, he loves to point out the places we visited when we went to Israel last summer. He reads the afikomen hide and seek book year round!
Are you part of any other organized Jewish communities?
Avi goes to the JCC and will go to the Perelman Jewish Day School next year.
What do you think other parents should know about jkidphilly?
jkidphilly is fun, approachable, no pressure, and a great way to infuse Jewish traditions into a typical weekend.
