jkidphilly Spark Grant

challahbraid.pngjkidphilly is proud to announce that we have received a Spark Grant from the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, founders of PJ Library!  This grant, in partnership with Challah For Hunger, will allow us to offer a series of challah-baking events for families with children 4-10 years old (younger and older siblings are welcome).

Join us in two locations (West Chester and Yardley) for an opportunity to:

  • meet new families
  • braid and bake challah
  • learn about ways to fight hunger in our community
  • donate to a local hunger relief nonprofit

Each session is a stand-alone experience, though we encourage families to participate in the whole series as each session will be designed with a different theme.  These will include:

  • Challah -from the farm to the oven- how is it made?
  • Philanthropy/Tikkun Olam - how do we use our dollars to repair the world?
  • Feeding the Hungry - how can we make a difference in the lives of others?
  • Kehillah - understanding how families are a part of a larger Jewish community?
  • Gratitude - using blessings to savor each moment we have with each other and being thankful for what we have

Join us for a challah baking series! No experience necessary! Together we will meet new families, braid challah, and learn about ways to fight hunger in our community!

The series begins by diving deep into the topic of challah. How do you make challah? What does baking challah have to do with creating positive change in or community? We will then explore tikkun olam (repair the world) and what kind of difference each of us can make. Our journey together then leads us to explore hunger in our community and ways we can provide help to those who need it. From there we will learn about community and how to foster a strong sense of collaboration. Finally, our last session will bring us together around gratitude.

For families just like yours -- our challah baking series allows families to learn to braid and bake challah, understand the issue our community faces regarding hunger, and participate in activities that will inspire those involved to make a difference in the lives of others on an ongoing basis. Using fun-filled games, PJ Library stories and the chance to build relationships with other jkidphilly families, this low-cost program is for you! No experience necessary! Join us!
