I Am A Passover Baby: A Mom Shares About Her Favorite Holiday

I am a Passover Baby.  I was born on the second night of the second Seder, with no regard for the ones that were being conducted that night.  Apparently, as my mom tells it, I gave rise to the Four Questions in the form of contractions.  My family likes to think that I answered that eternal question “Why is this night different from all others?” with my arrival into the world.  I think it’s fair to say, the holiday of Pesach has been intertwined into my identity and existence ever since.

A Purim Tradition: Mishloach Manot

Come Purim time, my fun-loving family gets pretty into it. It's definitely a holiday tailor made for us.  As it is, during the year, we are known to wear glitter and feathers in a relatively passable  manner to synogogue, so Purim is a good fit.  One of the things we love doing as part of the mitzvot for the holiday is giving mishloach manot, gifts of food packages.

Raising Children is a Challenge and a Blessing Every Day

I woke up from a dream startled.  In it, my kids were playing on a staircase in a house I have never seen before. My father was with me and I was reminding the kids to not lean on the banister.  Of course, they did and the banister began to fall with the children leaning over towards the ground below.  I woke up realizing that it was only a dream, the kids didn’t get hurt, the banister didn’t need to be replaced, and there must be a message to share.

Hiddur Mitzvah- Bringing Beauty To A Mitzvah

I started thinking about Hiddur Mitzvah, the Mitzvah of bringing beauty to a Mitzvah, as I was getting ready with my kids to celebrate Father’s Day.  Celebrating Father’s Day we were observing  the  Mitzvah of Kavod et Av v Em, honoring one’s parents, it was a great opportunity for me to discuss the Mitzvah with my kids.

The Exodus Heroes

Who are your heroes? It’s a question that we adults don’t ask ourselves often enough. These days, I’m reminded of my heroes most often when they pass away; I mourned Joan Rivers death last year not only because of her amazing wit and humor but because of how her example of believing in her abilities has inspired me to continue to push my own limits.
